AL internal feuds ‘intensifying’

Intra-party squabbles in the Awami League (AL) have taken a serious turn ahead of the next general elections slated for 2019. Ruling party leaders and activists are embroiled in infighting to establish their supremacy in their areas and grab party posts. Although intra-party power struggle in the AL is nothing new, it appears to be intensifying with time as the next general election draws near. Of late, the infighting within the party rank and file has escalated considerably. An influential quarter of the ruling party yesterday obstructed the holding of a party programme in the city. An extended meeting of the ALs Dhaka South City unit was scheduled at the Pearl Harbour Community Centre at Azimpur yesterday to make preparations for the partys November 18 citizens rally.
