Military chief accused of ‘treasonable conduct’ amid rumours of coup attempt in Harare, after unprecedented challenge to President Robert Mugabe

Zimbabwe’s capital Harare was reported to be in a state of chaos after reports of multiple explosions and soldiers taking over the headquarters of a state broadcaster, assaulting both civilians and staff.

Earlier the government accused the head of the armed forces of “treasonable conduct”, ratcheting up tension in the southern African nation.
